Live Music With John Rankin

John began his musical journey at age four studying classical violin at Marylhurst University, later performing as a solo violinist and with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. At sixteen, he taught himself guitar and wrote over 200 songs while studying business and psychology at the University of Washington. After law school in 2011, he was convinced to share his music, winning Best Performance at a West Coast Songwriters Association competition. From 2012 to 2015, he led a rock/funk band called Commonly Courteous, gaining local fame. In 2015, John was chosen by John Legend to play SXSW, prompting his move to Southern California to pursue music full-time. He developed a popular live show using a loop pedal, playing numerous venues and festivals. Since 2020, John has focused on recording and producing, earning four San Diego Music Award nominations. In 2024, he is composing music for film and digital media at Roots Up Studios, while still producing and performing occasionally.
